Foamed ceramics are a type of lightweight, porous ceramic material made by high-temperature sintering. Their internal structure resembles a “foam,” hence the name. During manufacture, a foaming agent (e.g., carbonates, sulfates) is added to the ceramic powder; when fired, the agent decomposes and releases gas, creating uniform closed- or open-cell pores throughout the body.
